The basic rules of bookkeeping haven’t changed since the days of huge ledger books that had every transaction painstakingly written out by hand. These days pretty much every business uses software of some kind to perform the function but the same “double entry” rules still exist and have to be followed.

Watching the many adverts on TV and online for the different bookkeeping software packages out there you would think all you have to do is pay your monthly subscription and the software does everything for you. Most people discover the reality is actually pretty different and while at NGR Accountancy we do love the way the packages work we are professional accountants who work with these things all the time. The information still has to be transferred from your initial records into the right place in the software and if you don’t get it right it can end up more of a mess than if you’d done nothing, this can lead to far more time (and much higher fees) when it comes to the end of year accounts!

At NGR Accountancy we’ll take care of all your bookkeeping, the only thing we recommend you do yourself is send out your own invoices. This isn’t because we don’t want to do it for you, it is simply so you get paid faster. If we were to do it for you there would be a delay from you getting us the information to put on the invoice then us processing it and sending it out. We will provide you with access to an app that will allow you to send invoices direct from your phone as soon as you finish a job or make a sale, you can see your customer get the invoice while you’re talking to them. This can be a huge benefit to your cash flow.
